ART, ART, ART

ABSTRACT AND CREATIVE JOURNALING

Today we had the amazing Georgia Harmon from Toi Collective take us for a lesson on art. We focused on creative journaling. This was a task that was set for the students to create something that reflected something that they loved/liked. It could have been a colour or a place, it could have been food or it could have been something to do with their name.

We had a range of resources that the students were able to use; this included paint, paint pens, vivids, fabrics, sponges, pencils and more. They had free range of what they created as we wanted it to represent who they are as a person.

Here are some photos from our lesson today.

Glentui Camp - Year 7's - April

Written by Emily and Lottie (year 7s).

 Y7 Camp!

On Wednesday the Yr 7s went to Glentui for this year's school camp. Once we got in the cars we were bursting with excitement and a little bit of nervousness.

Bunkrooms

When we got there we got allocated to our bunkrooms, we freaked out a little bit because of all the spiders and insects but when we eventually got them out we went into the dining hall for some rules to be laid down. Our camp was on the edge of a cliff, and with a great view of the mountains and the forestry.

Activites

For our first activity we travelled the Ashley Bridge, it took 30 minutes, it was a loop, we drove from camp to the destination then Ms. Holland started the walk for us then she went the wrong way, then Emily's mum Kirsty and Aisling mum Joh led the rest of the way. We also came across a bird watching station and a Fantail visited us there it was following us! We had a lot of Fantail and other birds (Maybe Bellbirds).

The next day my group (Holly E, Anna, Emily, Logan, Anya Ailsling, Paityn, and I) first had river crossing. The water was so forbiddingly cold!  When we got to a waterfall with a large lake, some people slid down the waterfall, and some jumped off the cliff into the cliff. I jumped off and the cold water shocked me and I almost couldn’t swim up, it was that wintery. -Lottie. I swam in the lake - Emily.  In the end no one could feel their toes.

After lunch we did abseiling, (which is Latin for ropedown) which is basically climbing down a cliff. I at first had a look and then I went down I cried going down a ¼ of the way. -Lottie. I was very panicked at how high it was. - Emily.

The next activity was bubbles, giant plastic bubbles when we got inside them they were hot, we did sumo wrestling, a race, and we rolled down the hill in them. Ms. Holland rolled down the hill as well.

Then we did some team building but before we did that we had a cupcake break.

The theme was that we were secret spurs defusing a bomb, we did skiing, lava jumps, then we got the bomb out by using tent pegs and 2 ropes. Then the actual bomb was vinegar and baking soda.

Food

For dinner we had spaghetti bolognese, it was delicious! We had Ice cream with a chosen sauce and some people had baking.

The next day for breakfast we had an option of toast, cereal or rice bubbles, we could also have peaches. We were all tired from the lack of sleep and the morporkes and stags making a racket. I had rice bubbles and peaches - Emily I had 2 pieces of toast, one with butter, and 1 with marmite. -Lottie. And for lunch we had nachos. They were nice and warm, especially after river crossing in the cold lake.

And we also had cupcakes after

Pack up

At the end  we had to pack up, using vacuum cleaners and wiping the ping pong tables. We had to pack up our stuff and put in the car, getting ready for the drive back.

Wellington Camp March 2021

Written by Arniaka and Tallulah (year 8s).

On the 24th to the 26th of March the year 8’s went to  Wellington.

On the first morning we arrived at the airport at 7:30 when we got there we checked in our bags and our boarding passes.

After we got them we waited for the final people to arrive in the airport,

Soon after that we boarded the plane and  Miss Holland gave us a barley sugar to suck on while the plane was taking off to help with our ears so they wouldn't get sore.

When we arrived in Wellington we got dropped off at Te Papa and then walked over to the YHA hostel and dropped off our big bags.

Once we dropped off our big bags we walked back to the waterfront and did a scavenger hunt about wellington and we had to walk to different places in wellington to find each different clues.

When we finished that we went to the National Library we saw the Treaty Of Waitangi and the Women's right refuge,we were split into groups and were looking at who signed the Treaty and it showed what city they lived in New Zealand it was really cool people were searching to see if any of their family members signed the treaty. After that we went to Te Papa and learnt about the Gallipoli war and saw the model that Weta Workshop made the statues that were there.

After that we went back to the YHA and had Fish ‘n’ chips.  We ordered 10 scoops of chips and only got 5 mini boxes.

Shortly after dinner we got both of our bags and bussed to Wellington.

When we arrived at the zoo we were early so we went and played at the playground. Soon Zach came and got us from the park and told us to get some warm clothes on and then we went out to explore.

We went to have a look at the otters and they came right up to the window they were really cute next we went to the kiwi enclosure they didn't come out  so we just learnt some facts about them instead after that we went to see the squirrel monkeys they were really small and cute, then we went to see the black and white ruffed lemurs they were really loud.

By that time we were at the Tarantula enclosure. They were big and hairy heaps of people kept on giving Miss Holland a fright. It was very funny. Next it was time to go back to our room and set up our beds and get ready for bed. After all, we were really tired.

The next morning we woke up at the zoo. We all got ready bright and early to get ready to feed the zoo animals and say hi to them before we had to leave to go to YHA to drop our bags off because we were staying that night. After we dropped off our bags we walked into town to get our subway to eat for our lunch then we took the cable car to this hill that overlooked Wellington the view was amazing!

We then walked down to the park and sat on the grass and ate our subway shortly after that we went and played at the park until we had to leave to go and have our tour with parliament before we could go into parliament we had to wait outside so we all sat down from all the walking we had to do that day.

When they let us in we had to go through security so we had to put our bags on trays to go through the x rays and we had to get scanned. After we got through security we had to go into this room and lock our bags away because we were not allowed them and teachers with their bags and phones had to get theirs locked away, then we went to this room called the Education room with our tour person called Jessie.

We learnt some things about Parliament and then we headed to the Debate Chamber to watch a debate happen.

We had to through more security to head to the Debate Chamber and it was really fun and interesting watching them argue half way through the debate Jessie told us to head on out and she was going to show us the parliament library it was really cool they have had they have had two fires in their library since it has been built. When we were on the way back from Parliament library we stopped in at the covid 19 announcement and had a photo with all of the Year 8’s.

After the library we headed to the national museum we were all really tired but we all found it really awesome there all these cool things like in the old days a debate room etc.

After that we walked back to the YHA to have dinner we had spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread it was delicious and for dessert we had chocolate and vanilla ice cream with crumbled oreos on our ice cream soon after that we chilled in our room and then it was lights out.The next morning when we got up and had some toast for breakfast and walked to capital E.

At capital E we did an Eye on the hive report, at Capital E it was really cool there were proper cameras and greenscreens.

You could be the director, a reporter and there was a prime minister and candidates.

The news report was about a law to ban the internet it was really cool

When we finished at Capital E we got the and went to the Suzanne Aubert centre and we had and we put our bags in the foyer to get ready for our tour of the place. After that we got into a line and headed into their church to do some christan meditation  we all got into a circle sat on our chairs and they lit a candle we had to sit in silence for 10 minutes and  after that we went up to the place were Suzanne Aubert had her water tanker, when we got back we went to the place she was buried and had a minute of silence for her and then we blessed our self on the way out and waited for the bus to arrive when the bus arrived it was 15 minutes late so we were rushing to the airport so we didn't miss our flight.!

Thankfully when we arrived at the airport we didn't miss our flight but we did have to run through the airport!.

When we boarded the plane we had to wait a little while because the plane taking off from Christchurch was delayed.

When we finally landed everyone was very excited to see their family and have dinner.

My favourite part of the trip was when we went to Parliament because I learnt a lot, and was very excited, and Wellington zoo because I love animals.

A big thank you to everyone who organised our awesome trip and another big thank you to Miss Holland, Mrs Stewart and Mark for coming along.

Arnaika and Tallulah.
